Straight answers about the Umm al-Qura calendar and how this converter works.
Yes. Every date is calculated with the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, and matches the dates published on ummulqura.org.sa. The converter covers Hijri years 1344 to 1500 (1925 to 2076).
There is more than one way to calculate the Hijri calendar. Many converters use the tabular Islamic calendar, which follows a fixed 30-year cycle, while Umm al-Qura is based on astronomical calculation. The two can differ by a day or two. For Saudi government dates, use Umm al-Qura.
Umm al-Qura is calculated in advance for official and administrative use. The start of Ramadan, Shawwal (Eid al-Fitr) and Dhu al-Hijjah is announced by the Supreme Court after the new moon is sighted, and that can differ from the calculated date by a day. That's why these occasions are marked “expected” on this page.
A Hijri month has 29 or 30 days, following the moon. A Hijri year has 12 months and usually 354 or 355 days, about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year, which is why Ramadan comes around 11 days earlier each Gregorian year. The month view on the Convert tab shows the exact length of every month.
Open the and choose Days between dates. Select Use today for From, then type the expiry date in To exactly as it appears on the document, Hijri or Gregorian. You'll see the days, Hijri months and working days left. To find the date a set number of days or months from now, use Add or subtract.
Yes. Open and paste a column from Excel, one date per line. Lines can include other text, such as a name, and you can mix Hijri and Gregorian dates. Select Copy table for Excel and paste the result into Excel or Google Sheets. Dates that have passed show in red, and dates due in the next 30 days in amber.
Sunday to Thursday count as working days; Friday and Saturday don't. The count starts the day after the start date and includes the end date. Public holidays such as the two Eids and National Day are not removed, and employers can set their own schedules, so check your organisation's holiday calendar.
No. All conversion happens in your browser, and the dates you type or paste, including lists, never leave your device. The site stores a copy of its pages on your device so it works offline, and nothing else.
